Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

Volvo drivers appreciate their key fob's handy remote that comes with features. They can lock and unlock their vehicle, start the motor, and even find it using a smartphone application.

Place the key fob's face up on a clean surface. Find the button that will release it. Put a coin between the cover of the fob and the fob, and carefully pull up.

Unlocking the Doors

Volvo's remote key fobs will unlock the doors, tailgate, and the fuel filler flap of your vehicle with a press of a button. They can also switch on the ignition, activate the alarm, and even operate the sunroof if it's fitted. With these features you'll never need to look for your keys or have to lock yourself out of your car.

You may not know about certain key fob features that are not visible. You can use the lock/unlock option manually if the battery in your key fob fails.

To push the manual lock/unlock button hold your key fob with the Volvo logo side up. Locate the black button that is located near the edges of the key fob body and gently press it to open a cover that houses a manual key blade. You will require a flathead screwdriver or coin to flip the cover counterclockwise so that the arrow is aligned with "open."

Start the Engine

Modern Volvo key fobs provide a level convenience and functionality that is unparalleled by manual keys. However, just like any battery-powered electronic device, a key fob can lose its charge or stop working over time. If you've noticed that your key fob is less responsive when you press the lock or unlock buttons, it's an indication that it's time to replace the battery.

You can activate this feature with the key fob in case your car has a dealer installed Engine Remote Start. The car will then heat or cool to the exact temperature it was set to when parked, and it will operate for up to 15 minutes.

Use a fingernail to remove the cover from the back of the key fob. Under the cover, on a diagonal near the body's edge you'll find an unidentified button. Slide it down and then to the right. Lay out your key fobs along with batteries and any other keys on a clean surface. Place the key fob with the Volvo logo facing up, then locate a small black button on the left side of the fob. Slide it downwards and to the right. The cover will begin to loosen and fall off leaving the key's mechanical blade beneath it.

You can unlock all doors as well as the reargate by pressing the unlock button on the fob's keypad twice. By pressing the lock button for two seconds, you can also close the windows and the sunroof when they're fitted. Reconnect the battery and the alarm will stop. If it doesn't, the owner's manual should have a way to reset the system.
